Varsity Basketball Coach Clare Murphy ’87 was honored on December 15th by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association. During the Hall of Fame Banquet at the College of the Holy Cross, the MBCA recognized Murphy for her 300 career wins as a coach here at Fontbonne.
Coach Murphy won her 300th career game last January against Notre Dame Academy. Only six female basketball coaches in the state have ever accomplished this tremendous feat. Murphy has been the Fontbonne Head Basketball Coach for the past 21 years, and previously acted as the JV Coach for seven years. Since Murphy has taken on the role of Head Coach, Fontbonne Basketball has had a tradition of skilled and disciplined basketball. Her teams have qualified for State Tournament 19 out of her 21 years, her teams have gone on to participate in the South Sectional Finals a number of times and the 2004 team won the Semi-Finals held at TD Garden. Her record speaks for itself.
