Serving the dear neighbor is an essential expression of Fontbonne’s mission. Krista Finnigan ‘21 and Reese Johnson ‘21, are putting their passion for our mission to work. They wanted to do something to help ease the pain and suffering across the world, but what could they do?  Finnigan and Johnson decided a service trip organized here at Fontbonne could make a difference.

They say after seeing the destruction of Hurricane Maria, they wanted to find a way to serve the dear neighbor. With guidance from Ms. Maria Sarte in our Office of Mission & Ministry, a service trip to Puerto Rico through Catholic Heart Work Camp has been planned. For a week next June, ten Fontbonne students will engage in service and in opportunities to deepen their faith and make a difference. This trip will be a hands-on experience. The girls will work to repair local homes and churches. Students will also visit with the people struggling to rebuild there.  The goal is to introduce them to a different perspective of Puerto Rico. Finnigan and Johnson hope this service trip will open new doors for future Fontbonne students to grow in faith and service. Their legacy will certainly make an impact on the Fontbonne community.

The response by Fontbonne’s students to participate in this service trip was so overwhelming that the Office of Mission & Ministry is already planning a second service trip this summer. We want to make service trip opportunities an annual option for our Sophomore and Junior students.

We can't do it without your help - please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Your generous donation of any dollar amount will be greatly appreciated.
