Select Chorus in the Community

On January 10, Select Chorus had the incredible opportunity to join the Irish American Partnership to sing for a breakfast celebration of the Irish folk tradition Nollaig na mBan (“Women’s Christmas”) at the Boston Harbor Hotel . Joining the Fontbonne students, and other attendees, was the honoree of the event former Irish President Mary McAleese who was interviewed by former Irish Ambassador to the U.S. Anne Anderson. Together they highlighted Irish and Irish-American female leaders who have made a global difference.

Nollaig na mBan, typically celebrated on the Epiphany (January 6), used to mark the end of the busy holiday season for Irish Women who were expected to care for the home. “Women’s Christmas” was a a day of rest from household chores where women gathered to eat, drink, and relax. Throughout the years, this holiday has transformed into a celebration of women across Ireland for their impact in the home and their communities. It is an honor that Fontbonne’s Select Chorus was invited to participate in this event, and to help bring this tradition oversees to our hometown of Boston.
