Fontbonne is thrilled to announce one of our outstanding young women has been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Senior Olivia Chiavegato of Walpole is one of only 16,000 students nationwide named as a Semifinalist in the 66th National Merit Scholarship Program. Each year the College Board names students as Semifinalists and commended students who score in the top 3% of the more than 1.5 million students across the country who took the PSAT in 2020.
Miss Chiavegato is one of only 391 academically talented high school students from Massachusetts to achieve this status. She will now compete for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Miss Chiavegeto must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. About half of all Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
“We are so proud of all Olivia has accomplished in her four years at Fontbonne. This milestone is an illustration of the academic excellence our students and adults experience at Fontbonne on a daily basis. She joins in sisterhood with more than 15 years of merit scholars at Fontbonne and we are so proud of her personal achievements as a Semifinalist. Olivia is a woman of service and leadership who leads with a compassionate heart always seeking ways to lift those around her,” said Ms. Maura Spignesi, Head of School.
Miss Chiavegato is also a 2020 recipient of the Harvard University Book Award.
