Susan (Sue) Katchpole, more commonly known as “Katch” was an inspirational fixture at Fontbonne for nearly four decades, where she was a beloved teacher, nurse, coach, colleague, and friend. Her students were her passion where she inspired young women to become leaders and to instill the values of integrity and courage, as well as the importance of creating solid relationships. With a unique combination of strength, humor, and compassion, she dedicated her life to supporting hundreds of young women and was instrumental in helping to improve and develop the Fontbonne Physical Education and Health curriculum. Sue lost a valiant battle to cancer in February 2019.
In memory of Sue, Carol Mather and the Match for Katch Golf Committee have established the Susan Katchpole Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a student or students with demonstrated financial need. She/they must exemplify the following attributes which embodied Sue as a person and long-time staff member at Fontbonne.
- Demonstrates a love for athletics
- Demonstrates academic prowess or potential
- Lives the values and mission of Fontbonne
- Exhibits leadership skills
- Shows empathy, consideration, and respect of others
- Handles a difficult situation or challenge with courage
A sense of humor is not an essential attribute but would be ideal to round out the attributes that embody Sue.
