Description

The National Honor Society was established in 1921 to recognize and foster academic achievement while developing the characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. Scholarship, character, service and leadership are ideals that remain as relevant today as they were in 1921.

NHS BYLAWS

The Fontbonne Chapter of the National Honor Society was initiated in the early years of Fontbonne Academy and flourishes to this day as a vibrant service-oriented organization whose members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection. As in the past, the National Honor Society serves as an excellent training ground for the Academy's young women who will be the leaders in the years to come. The prerequisites for membership in the National Honor Society are determined by the National Council and are clearly defined in its handbook. Accordingly a student is invited to become a member of Fontbonne Academy's National Honor Society based on her academic achievement. After the completion of first semester junior year, any student who has maintained a grade point average of 3.33 or higher during her high school career is invited to submit an essay describing her character, her commitment to service, and her leadership qualities. Fontbonne Academy's National Honor Society Faculty Council votes to induct those students who fulfill the four criteria of the National Honor Society.
