Virtual High School Application

The Virtual High School Cooperative project initially funded by a Technology Challenge Grant from the DOE is bringing the future to over 200 high schools within the and abroad. VHS is the first large-scale project to create Internet-based courses at the pre-college level, providing a low-cost means of augmenting the range of courses a school can offer without expanding enrollment. All VHS teachers complete a graduate-level NetCourse to learn how to develop and deliver high-quality courses over the Internet. In exchange for teaching a NetCourse, schools in the VHS Cooperative can enroll students in any VHS NetCourse being offered by other participating schools. At Fontbonne, the High School program started November 1999) with the registration of FIVE students into the program for the spring semester. The spring term began in January and ended in May. Currently, there are over 150 courses offered through the VHS, and are interesting electives for our students to be involved in.

The course registration is open to 10 students, although, additional seats may become available through the Catholic School Collaborative if requested. Mrs. Dianne Pappafotopoulos (dpappa@fontbonneacademy.org) is the Site Coordinator for the program, and will oversee student involvement. All courses are offered on the Internet and students are given an elective course credit from Fontbonne. A course catalog is available in the CRC for course selection, or online at http://www.govhs.org. It is an exciting opportunity for Fontbonne Academy to be participating in such a quality distance learning program!
