Academic Finance Corporation – is a not-for profit student lending organization based in Worcester, MA offering a new “$50K Giveaway Scholarship Sweepstakes.” They will award two scholarships in the amount of $5,000 and sixteen scholarships in the amount of $2,500 to randomly selected students who will be attending an accredited college, university or trade school in the fall of 2007. This sweepstakes is free to enter, no essay is required, and eligibility is not based on GPA, area of study or financial need. Deadline is 05/31/07. American Institute for Chemical Engineers (AIChE) offers a Minority Scholarship Award. This is sponsored by the Minority Affairs Committee of AIChE. Rules and criteria for this scholarship include: student must be a member of a minority group that is under-represented in chemical engineering such as African-American, Hispanic, Native American, or Alaskan Native. Students must plan on enrolling in a four-year college or university that offers a science/engineering degree. Students are encouraged to choose classes leading to a degree in chemical engineering. A minimum gpa of 3.0 is required. This scholarship is for $1,000. Deadline is 05/15/07. The Catholic Woman’s Club of Hingham – offers the 2007 Scholarship to any eligible Catholic twelfth grade student who resides in Hingham, or the daughter of a club member. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education offers the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program – this is a federal scholarship program which was started in 1984, and annually provides recognition plus a $1,500 scholarship to seniors. For selection criteria a students must have earned a gpa of at least 3.5, must be able to provide a transcript, must have demonstrated leadership in the school community; have participated in one or more extra-curricular activities such as arts, athletics, student government, community service and on the job training activities. Emphasis is given to students from low-income and moderate-income families. For this scholarship students need to be nominated. If interested please come to the Guidance Department if you would like to be considered for this scholarship.

DSS Adopted Children Tuition Waiver – intended to lessen the financial burden on adopting parents in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This is for children adopted through the Department of Social Services by state employees or eligible Massachusetts residents, regardless of the date of adoption. The tuition waiver includes 100% of tuition for state-supported courses at all of the Massachusetts public institutions of higher education. Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship Program – One hundred $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants. Available to students living in the following Massachusetts’ counties: Bristol, Franklin, Hamden and Hampshire. Hingham Mother’s Club - Each year this organization awards scholarships to high school seniors residing in Hingham who will be entering an accredited college/university for two or four year course and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

Easton Lions Club – will award four $1,000 scholarships to Easton residents who are graduating high school this year. Deadline is 04/09/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

Philip J. Farrell Memorial Scholarship – This is a $1,000 scholarship available to graduating seniors who participate in the 2007 Big I Junior Golf Classic Program only. Deadline is 07/05/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

Hyde Park Cooperative Charitable Foundation – will award scholarships to high school seniors who reside in Hyde Park and in Jamaica Plain. Candidates must have at least a B average, have been involved in extra curricular activities or community service and have the motivation and initiative to move onto higher education. Deadline is May 4, 2007. Applications are available in the Guidance Department

Massachusetts Arborists Association – Gordon and Frances King Scholarship created three annual scholarships to help recruit and educate commercial arborists at the University of Massachusetts and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. Approved applicant must successfully complete the first semester work with a grade point average of 2.0 or better, and preference will be given to residents of Massachusetts who plan to work in the Massachusetts commercial tree care industry as well as applicants who demonstrate financial need. Deadline is 05/15/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

***Massachusetts Convention Center Authority’s Community Partnership and Hospitality Scholarship Fund – This is a new scholarship that will be awarded annually. Two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded. This will provide financial support to high school students enrolling in a college hospitality program. Deadline is 05/01/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department. ***

National Kidney Foundation – of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont is offering three scholarships:
The Future Achiever’s Award – will award one graduating senior, the opportunity to work as an intern in a laboratory during the summer months. The student will be awarded $2,500 in three installments over the course of the summer. Only two applications will be accepted from any one high school. Deadline is 05/01/07.
Academic Award – one prospective college bound student will be awarded a $1,000 academic award. This scholarship is for a student whose life has been directly impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease. Deadline is 03/26/07.
Dottie Lourie Memorial Scholarship – a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual whose life has been directly impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease or a life saving organ transplant. Deadline is 03/26/07.

SDMS Educational Foundation – offers scholarship support for students in diagnostic medical sonography programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in the United States. Applicants need to be accepted into an ultrasound program accredited by CAAHEP, have a financial need, and meet or exceed published academic conditions. Application deadline is 03/31/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

The Spirit of Saint George Foundation – is offering the second annual Father Bill Wolkovich Memorial Scholarship. This is a $750 scholarship awarded to a Norwood resident graduating high school and is planning to purse a higher education at a two or four year college. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition of a student who has exemplified Father Bill’s spirit of kindness, compassion and generosity. A written essay of 300-500 words explaining how you demonstrated the above qualities towards peers, community or church and two letters of recommendations is needed. Deadline is 05/04/07. Applications are available in the Guidance Department.

Town of Weymouth Scholarship Award – This is open to all legal residents of the Town of Weymouth, must be presently attending, or have received acceptance to attend, an accredited educational institution beyond high school level before payment of scholarship award, a personal interview may be needed before financial aid is given and supporting documents must be returned if required by the Scholarship Committee. Deadline is 03/31/07. Applications are available at the Weymouth Town Hall.

Yawkey Scholars Program – established to support students in Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina. This is a need-based scholarship program. Students need to meet the following requirements for the program: a U.S. citizen and resident of one of the following counties: Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester, graduating from a high school located in one of the counties listed, have strong academic potential, have a great financial need and plan on attending for the first time eligible colleges and universities located in Massachusetts and South Carolina.
