OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the HTML and Web Design Course! This course is designed to teach students how to use HTML and Dreamweaver to design web pages and create simple animations. During the course of the year, students will learn how to evaluate websites, the basics of HTML code, copyright issues, web design techniques, and the Dreamweaver program. There will be some exposure to programs such as Flash, Animationshop, and Adobe Photoshop to show students how to further enhance their web pages with video and graphics. Students begin the year by  creating a web page using HTML before designing pages using the Dreamweaver program. Once students have an understanding of the elements of the program behind the web page, they will be able to manipulate their pages from both a code and a design point of view. Several projects will be assigned throughout the year to assess student achievement in this area. Most class work will be done on a collaborative level with some presentation and peer review.

MATERIALS:

Students are expected to have the following materials by the end of the first week of classes:

·         A one inch binder/folder to hold all handouts and instructions for projects.

·         2 Required books: HTML 4 For the WWW 5th Edition -  Macromedia Dreamweaver MX

·         USB drive to store information

RESPONSIBILITY:

Students are responsible to follow all lab rules and abide by Fontbonne Academy’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and the Technology Lab Policies as described in the handbook and on the website.

HOMEWORK/LAB WORK:

Projects will be given with due dates. Students are responsible to pass in any homework/lab work assignments that are given on a timely basis. Late assignments will not be accepted without a significant reason and 10 points will be deducted for every day that an assignment is late. Assignments will not be accepted after 1 school cycle. Absent students must see me for missed work and will have one day to make up assignments unless otherwise directed.

LAB ATTENDANCE:

Students are expected to attend all classes held in the lab. If a student is 10 minutes late, she is considered absent for that class.

WHEN THE TEACHER IS ABSENT:

When a teacher is absent, a student is still expected to pick up their daily classwork assignment posted on the lab door. This assignment is then due by the end of that day. Since the lab may be locked, your assignments should be passed in to a wire basket located in the Art Room next to the lab (Mrs. Robertson’s homeroom). Please put assignment in the basket. A daily grade will be given for the task assigned.

GRADING:

Assessment will be based on daily lab work/weekly projects and assignments completed. Lab work will be greatly considered in the grading process, since there is little homework involved. Some tests/quizzes will be given during this course, and mid term and final exams will be alternative assessment projects worth 20% of the grade. All grades will be password protected and posted to the web for parent/student review. These grades can be accessed through the FBA website under ACADEMICS. Student passwords for the course will be provided within the first few weeks of school through the main office.
