Course Title:
Advanced Placement English
Instructor: Elizabeth Joseph
(ejoseph@fontbonneacademy.org)
Overview: This course offers
challenging material to the serious student who loves to read, think, and
learn. Through class discussions, oral
presentations, literary analyses papers, and practice AP exam questions, the
student thinks more insightfully and writes more cogently. At the end of the year, the student should
appreciate literature more deeply and be prepared for success on the Advanced
Placement exam.
Teacher Expectations:
- Properly prepare for class, that is,
read carefully and insightfully and bring correct materials to class.
- Work to the best of your ability;
success comes to the persistent hard worker “at unexpected hours”
(Thoreau).
- Avoid all forms of plagiarism; let an
honest effort be your mantra.
Maintain your integrity.
- Respect all divergent views in our
class.
- Communicate with me about any extended
absences or issues that may affect your performance.
Grading:
- Point values for each assignment range
from 10-200. Longer papers demand
more weight.
- Occasionally there will be reading
quizzes on homework.
- A late paper will lose ten points for
each day it is late.
- Grades will be posted on line
frequently.
Classroom Policies:
- School policies regarding uniform,
tardiness to class, plagiarism, student and teacher absence will be
enforced. (Reminder: teacher absence: complete the assignment on your own and
place in the marked folder before 2:10 P.M. to receive proper credit).
- English make-up day: Thursday, 302 u at 2:15 P.M.
I am looking
forward to this year. Exchanging ideas
with you , gaining a new appreciation for literature,
and assisting you with your college essays and writing assignments should make
the year stimulating and worthwhile for all..
